The topics during IFFA 2022

The Frankfurt Messe is traditionally the place to be during IFFA to keep up with current and future trends within the food and meat industry. That will be no different from 14 to 19 May 2022. An overview of the most important themes that will be discussed during this three-year international trade fair.

Theme 1: automation

Automation has traditionally been an important factor in the production of meat and meat alternatives. Due to the acute shortage of workers and the increasing demands in terms of hygiene and quality, process automation – supplemented with high-tech robot solutions and artificial intelligence – is more topical than ever for anyone who wants to make a profit in terms of yield, flexibility and food safety.

Theme 2: Digitization

The power of data will certainly be a hot topic in the coming years for the meat industry – and the food industry in general. Digital solutions to register this data and use it smartly are therefore increasingly becoming a must. They provide real-time monitoring of the production process and play a central role in food quality management and traceability. Next step: the data-driven factory, where data exchange in both directions between production and the point of sale opens up many new possibilities.

Theme 3: food safety

The corona pandemic has once again made it clear how important food safety is. Machine manufacturers are fully responding to this with new solutions that optimize hygienic production. This also includes digital monitoring processes, as well as the development of packaging with less material use and higher recyclability.

Theme 4: sustainability

The European Green Deal aims to achieve climate neutral production by 2050. The way there is, among other things, through the efficient use of energy and resources, less food waste and recyclable or biodegradable packaging.

Trend 5: alternative proteins

Today consumers eat more consciously, healthier and more varied than ever. Meat substitutes and alternative proteins (with vegetable products or cultured meat) will play an important role in this. At IFFA 2022 you will discover how the industry is responding to this changed consumer behaviour.

Trend 6: individualization

Individual, unique, locally sourced, quality food is increasingly surpassing mass production. There are many opportunities for innovative butchers there. Not only in terms of their offer, but also in the distribution channels. Think of food trucks, vending machines or web shops.
