Abattoir Bastogne finally taken over

Since the bankruptcy of Qualibeef and AMB in August 2019, the activities of the Bastogne slaughterhouse have been at a standstill. More than two years later, two buyers have finally been found.

Two buyers for Bastogne slaughterhouse

After many months of negotiations, a takeover agreement for the Bastogne slaughterhouse was reached in mid-May. The buyers are Marcel Peters, of the PEMA Meat Group with among others the slaughterhouse of St. Vith, and Bernard Gotta of the Liège company with the same name and Viande de Liège SA. The slaughterhouse activities were halted for 2.5 years after the bankruptcy of Qualibeef (former Veviba) and AMB (Abattoir et Marché de Bastogne).

Agro-food centre of excellence

The new investors want to go further than just a slaughter line. They have plans to develop the Bastogne abattoir into an 'agro-food centre of excellence' for Wallonia, a centre of expertise for the Walloon agro-food sector.
